About Elaine:

Thank you for taking time to look at my profile and read a little about me and my work and education experience.

To begin with, I have a very well-rounded educational background. I took A.P. classes throughout my high school career. I went on to college at the University of illinois at Chicago where I graduated Cum Laude with a Bachelors degree in Spanish and Linguistics. I had a strong interest in foreign language and focused my studies in grammar and phonetics and I also took 9 graduate credits in ESL/ESOL teaching, which has provided me with skills to teach correct pronunciation and advanced grammar in foreign languages as well as my native English. I studied at the Universidad de Buenos Aires for my final year of undergraduate studies where I focused on Spanish linguistics, social science and Latin-American literature. I began Portuguese studies while living in Argentina, and after a year of intensive Portuguese, I moved to Brazil where I continued advanced Portuguese studies while working and teaching. I returned to school for a Masters degree in 2010 and recently graduated from florida International University in Miami, Florida with a Masters in Latin American and Caribbean studies. I specialized in the social sciences - particularly human geography - and conducted research with immigrant and exile groups in Miami.


I have worked as a tutor and translator for the last 6 years in many different countries. I have experience in ESL/ESOL, Spanish and Portuguese tutoring and teaching. My normal rate is $60 - $70 per hour. I have also worked as a writing instructor at local universities in Miami-Dade, training my students to become better and more professional writers. I have a passion for teaching languages, but I also have a diverse background the covers many interests. I have experience and greatly enjoy teaching math, reading and working with SAT and ACT prep.
